Merry Christmas from All of Us at DVR Overload!!!

I know it's a little late, but I thought it would be nice to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and have one last entry in the Coolest Holiday Commercials segment. Only this time I present a twist. It's Coolest Holiday Commercials: Fail Edition where I present to you my least favorite holiday commercial.

The winner of this not so prestigious award goes to the Gap holiday commercial. Not only do I find the song extremely annoying, it basically failed as an ad because most of the people who saw it (from what I've found around the internet) thought it was an Old Navy commercial. Another thing those people seemed to agree on, the fact that this commercial was just not good.

So, enjoy this Final Fail Edition of Coolest Holiday Commercials. Happy Holidays Everyone!

Dollhouse: Countdown to the Final Three

Since this is my first review of Dollhouse for the site, I'll just go ahead and get this out of the way; Joss Whedon = TV Master. There, now that that's out of the way...

Yesterday, I was able to catch up with one of my favorite shows and was definitely not disappointed. I'm still not sure how I felt about FOX's decision to put two hours of Dollhouse on a week, which is what made me get behind in the first place. It was definitely a little intimidating at first. But now that all that's over, we can focus on the awesomeness of that is this show.

It may be ending, but Dollhouse is going out with a bang! I can even count the number of times I went "OH!!!" or jumped in my seat last night during the show's final two hour block. It was just that good (Not that I ever expect less).

I was able to watch "Meet Jane Doe," "A Love Supreme" (featuring the amazing Alan Tudyk as Alpha), "Stop-Loss," and "The Attic." I'll try and make these summaries as quick and painless as I can without leaving any of the many, many major plot points out. Wish me luck...

"Coolest Holiday Commercials" - Garmin Tickles the Funny Bone

Alright, this has got to be my favorite holiday commercial by far. You have to watch the video a few times to catch everything they're singing, but trust me, it's hilarious.

As far as I know, these two are the only ones Garmin has released this year, but these commercials seem to have been around for at least two years, if not more. You can find ads from previous years by searching YouTube for "Garmin Holiday Commercial" or the like but, since I'm already there, I might as well provide the link here. Enjoy!

Playing TV Catch Up - Christmas Break Edition

Alright, so I may have gone MIA for almost a month, but now that finals are over and life is calming down a bit hopefully we can get this site up and running. My early New Years Resolution is to have everything on this site sorted out before shows start returning in January. We'll see how that goes...

In the meantime, I figured I'd write a post about what I'll be doing (television wise, of course) during this long winter break. Sure, there's basically nothing new left on TV; everything has either gone on break until January or spring or most cable series that started this fall have wrapped up their seasons.

But these long breaks are just perfect for catching up with those shows you've let slip by the wayside or ones that you've always wanted to watch but haven't gotten the chance to. So I thought this would be a great time to introduce a segment called "Playing Catch Up." We here at DVR Overload seem to do that a lot...

So, without further ado, here is a rundown of what my Christmas break will look like in terms of television, besides all the obvious Christmas specials and movies, of course!

Playing Minor Catch Up

Second half of Mad Men season 3 (I enjoy this show more when I have several episodes to watch at a time, don't ask me why.)
Last few episodes of White Collar (Crazy ending. Will do a write up soon.)
Last two episodes of Dollhouse + the two that air tomorrow night (Done and Done. Ill have my review up by tomorrow.)
Second half of Parks and Recreation season 2
Stargate Universe (I'll put this under "Minor Catch Up" since it's really only about half a season; nothing I can't handle ;-)

Playing MAJOR Catch Up

Bones seasons 1-5 (current season) (Hoping to get through at least the entire first season during break)
True Blood seasons 1-2
Psych seasons 1-4
Friday Night Lights seasons 1-4 (current season) (Also hoping to get through at least entire first season)
Skins seasons 2-3

(And just in case anyones interested, those last two are for a deal I have with my brother. I watch seven seasons worth of his favorite shows and he watches season 2 of Chuck. Am I crazy? Sure. But don't test my love for television. Or my devotion for my favorite show...)

Playing Random Catch-up

How I Met Your Mother
Big Bang Theory
The Middle
Cougar Town
Men of a Certain Age
Family Guy
The Cleveland Show
Basically any other sitcom I might want to catch-up on.

Well, I think that's my list so far. I'll come back and update this list once I've finished catching-up on a show or if I remember one I may have forgotten.

Happy Viewing!

Glee Hiatus and Going Up Against Lost - FOX Midseason Schedule Announcement

With news like this, no wonder Sue looks skeptical!

FOX yesterday released their midseason schedule which featured a few surprises. I'll post the official press release after the jump.

The most interesting news seems to come from fan favorite Glee. After it's winter finale in December, it won't return until April. Although that's a pretty long hiatus, it's not a complete surprise since production of the back nine that FOX ordered back in September won't resume until around mid-January.

The biggest surprise doesn't seem to be about when it will come back, but rather what day. Glee will move from it's current Wednesday slot to Tuesdays at nine. Yep, that's right up against the last few episodes of cult favorite Lost.

It's certainly a curious move by FOX since Glee has found success in it's current slot with less competition, but I have faith that it will continue to do well when it returns, if only dropping slightly in the ratings.

Dates to Watch and Other Notes -

  • Glee - Winter Finale Date: December 9th/Midseason Premiere Date: April 13
  • Fringe - WFD:February 4th/MPD: April 1st
  • American Idol returns January 12th
  • Series Premiere - Our Little Geniuses: January 13th
  • Series Premiere - Human Target: January 20th with Series Preview Jan. 17th
  • Season Premiere - 24: January 18th
  • Season Premiere - Kitchen Nightmares: January 29th
  • Series Premiere - Past Life: February 11th
  • Series Premiere - Sons of Tucson: March 14th
  • Dollhouse Series Finale: January 22nd
  • Lie to Me picked up for full season
Full press release after break.

Review: Castle - One Man's Treasure

Let me start off by saying that tonight's Castle was probably one of the best episodes in a while. This show is at it's best when Beckett and Castle have bizarre cases to solve. The crazier, the better. And this week was definitely all sorts of crazy.

One man, one wife, one fiance. It's not a line in a joke or the tagline for a new reality show. This week's victim was a man living two separate lives - a wife in the country and a fiance in the city. Or so it would seem.

"Coolest Holiday Commercials" - Joy To The Small World

Ok, I'll admit it, I'm a sucker for just about anything Disney. But if this commercial doesn't leave you heartwarmed, you should probably have yourself checked out.
