Alright, let me start out by discussing the main theme that the CW promoted the heck out of about tonight’s Gossip Girl: The THREESOME. The minute long scene that had the parents association going crazy may have been a bit of a letdown. The writers left a lot to the imagination…actually they left most of it to the imagination, which I have to say I saw coming. That being said, I would like to give props to Dan for living pretty much every guys dream; we all know that it is going to be awkward now between Dan, Olivia, and Vanessa seeing how Vanessa is Dan’s oldest “friend”-who still has feelings for him- and Olivia is no longer leaving town to do the movie…Tension is going to be at full mast next episode.
Speaking of tension, Serena and Blair continued their little Cold War taking cheap shots at each other as they skirmished over who should be Jenny’s mentor for cotillion. Serena eventually gave in and let Blair become Jenny’s mentor. However, that victory was short-lived as Jenny got bold when she found out that she got the escort that would be the Nate Archibald of all other escorts, Graham Collins, and basically told Blair to take a hike, but not before telling her that hair bands are out. Obviously Blair was not going to let Jenny get away with that, so she teamed up with Eric who is trying to save Jenny from going completely into the “dark side” (yes, he went even as far as to call Jenny Anakin/Darth Vader), and Kira who wanted to be part of Jenny’s minions but was dismissed almost as well as Blair used to. The trio wanted to dethrone Jenny and make Kira the new queen by making Graham Collins escort Kira instead of Jenny, and they succeeded in their plans, but in superior queen B fashion Jenny got Nate Archibald to escort her and proved herself to be the supreme queen of the Upper East Side. As a result of Eric being obsessed with trying to take down Jenny his relationship with Jonathan came to an end. I must say that this entire high school storyline seems so last season. It seems that we have seen all of this drama before and most of the cast has evolved to a more “sophisticated” drama, and it appears like the show is moving backwards with this entire storyline. I understand that the show needs to continue Jenny’s rise from the slums of Brooklyn to the glamour of the Upper East Side but I think some new drama needs to occur to keep this storyline interesting, but I think this episode is definitely a step in the right direction especially now that Eric will be teaming up with Kira to try and take down Jenny once again.
It appears that all the scheming that Chuck(who was mysteriously very absent most of this episode) has done to get Serena and Blair back to being “friends” finally paid off. He actually had to trap them in an elevator for them to start talking out their issues. Serena finally told Blair about why she had returned to the old Serena ways-- to get her father to pay attention to her. Serena also told Blair about the “tension” between her and Tripp Van Der Bilt. I wonder what is going to happen with this storyline. Is Tripp really going to allow himself to be put in a situation where he may pull a John Edwards? Apparently so…we will have to wait to find out what happens.
